AKTINA MISSION STATEMENT
Serving with distinction Greek Cypriot and Greek Americans of all generations & the general audience since 1993
AKTINA Productions, Inc., is a recognized and well-established Queens-based non-profit and tax-exempt under 501 (c) 3 cultural/educational organization that sponsors the highly rated radio and television programs AKTINA FM on WNYE 91.5FM-HD1 and AKTINA TV on WNYE-Ch. 25 and Ocean TV20 covering the tri-state are of New York and beyond. It was founded and established in 1993 with the main purpose of providing radio and television programs, as well as live musical performances, cultural and folk arts programs that preserve and promote the rich heritage and culture of Cyprus and Greece among the new generations of Greek Americans and introducing these to the general audience. In this respect, the organization introduced and established in May of 1993 the first and only true bilingual Greek American radio series on WNYE 91.5FM known as AKTINA FM and as an extension of this radio program, it also introduced and established in April of 2002 the first and only English language Greek American TV series known as AKTINA TV on WNYE-Channel 25 and Ocean TV20. Both AKTINA FM and AKTINA TV are non-profit and commercial free and their focus is the promotion and preservation of the Hellenic culture, folklore and identity in America. In addition they focus on matters that relate to the Greek and Greek Cypriot American community, to the national issues of motherlands Greece and Cyprus, while both programs also promote and cover topics of wide public interest that pertain to life in America such as social issues, education, health, quality of life, etc.
In keeping up with its cultural mission the organization also produces live programs pertaining to the culture, folklore, music, dances and the literary arts of Greece and Cyprus with local musicians and artists, while its main annual event is the production of a big concert every May in Manhattan with singers and musicians directly from Greece from its ongoing concert series GREEK MUSIC JOURNEY established in 1994.
The organization also supports education, and especially the needs of young adults (high school and college students Greek and non-Greek). In this respect, it offers Internship Programs in the areas of radio and television broadcasting and management with full credit. Over the years AKTINA has been awarded with Proclamations, Certificates of Merit, Congressional Records and other honors in recognition of its outstanding achievements in broadcasting and in the production of unique live cultural programs.
