AKTINA FM,
airing on public station WNYE 91.5FM, in the tri-state area of New
York, is a highly rated bilingual live call-in Greek-American
Radio Magazine Show of education, culture, enlightenment and
entertainment. Its main purpose is to educate the general audience
about Cypriot and Greek culture, heritage, traditions, as well as the
national issues of Cyprus and Greece. Furthermore, AKTINA FM
informs its listeners with regular newscasts and reports about
national and international news of wide public interest. AKTINA FM
also offers special series that focus and promote public education, as
well as educational series that encourage the participation of young
children. Such series include the Saturday Quiz which airs at 5:30pm
ET.
Employing an
innovative bilingual format, AKTINA FM successfully established
a diverse and wide listening audience comprised of members from
various ethnic groups and ages who faithfully tune-in and participate
in its regular call-in segments on education, immigration, health,
crime prevention, social issues, the arts, and culture. Prominent
professionals (e.g., doctors, scholars, educators, members of the
local police force, and people in the arts among others) participate
in these popular segments.
AKTINA FM is financially
supported by its Underwriters, with contributions from its
listeners, Greek and Cypriot-American community organizations,
companies, and through Government support from City and State
Agencies. The governments of Cyprus, Greece and the United States
officially recognize AKTINA FM and have awarded it with numerous
Proclamations, Citations and Declarations of Honor for its outstanding
broadcasting achievements.
AKTINA FM, the
official radio voice of Cyprus in America, brings its Cypriot-American
listeners closer to Motherland Cyprus with monthly radio links with
the official radio station of Cyprus, The Cyprus Broadcasting
Corporation (CYBC). During these radio links both stations
exchange programming, news, and information. This effort greatly
contributes to establishing a "communications bridge" between
the Cypriots of the Diaspora and their homeland.

AKTINA FM REVIVES
GREEK CULTURE, HERITAGE AND HISTORY
AKTINA FM also
understands the need of its Greek-American listeners to feel closer to
Greece and Cyprus. To fulfill this need, we continue to produce and
present folk arts, cultural and historical programs such as OUR
ROOTS, IMAGES FROM GREEK HISTORY, GREEK/CYPRUS HORIZONS
(Greek and English productions).
THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT
AND ALL THE NEW RELEASES ON AKTINA FM
AKTINA FMs programs are enriched with fine Greek music that covers
all aspects of Greeces music repertoire. All the new releases can be
enjoyed on AKTINA FM, as well as oldies, traditional and folk songs
and music. AKTINAs vast collection of Greek songs satisfy all tastes
and this is evident from its popular musical segments AKTINAs
Listeners Selections during which listeners call in and select on the
spot Greek songs.
AKTINA FM EMBRACES THE
ARTS
AKTINA FM also
continues its tradition of promoting community artists through its
programs, thus giving them the opportunity to be exposed to its vast
listening audience. In addition, AKTINA FM promotes unique
non-Greek artists and events, as part of its mission to embrace ethnic
programs and artists who reflect the cultural «make up» of New York.
We believe that this is very important for the establishment of good
relations with the general public. A society that understands each
others culture, can tolerate one another much better.
